about

Ojos Feos plays all original compositions in a style called Afro-Latin blues. The band plays blues/jazz and often uses bossa nova chord substitutions played behind traditional Latin and African rhythms such as cha cha cha, samba, son montuno, cumbia, reggae, reggaetone, highlife and djoli. Much of the lyrical content centers around human rights and social justice in Africa and Latin America.. The band is lead by Robbie Cree a multi-lingual and multi-instrumental physician who heads medical non-profit that works in sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America. Lead guitarist Dashel Ruiz is a former music professor at the University of Havana and Gaia Villarroel is a Chilean native who works with immigrant populations. Drummer Cheo Larcombe is former drum/percussion and arranger for the March 4th Marching Band, Chris Hale is a music degree on acoustic and electric bass, Grace McLean is a former university voice major, Jeff Sullivan adds a unique and interesting flare to the music with his electric violin with effects and Dave McLean decorates the music with traditional African and Latin rhythms on percussion.
